So I spent the day reading Karen Miller’s The Innocent Mage, and I liked it quite a lot. It’s very nicely written, and the story gets interesting pretty quickly. And it was a nice break from the heavy classic stuff I’ve been reading, too!
I’ve switched over to Nikolai Gogol’s Dead Souls (yes, back to the classic stuff) now that I’m finished. It’s a deliciously scandalous story about tax evasion and fraud, but with grandiose language and broad, sweeping descriptions. I love it, but it takes a while to read.
Meanwhile – later in the evening, there was a police checkstop. In the space of about fifteen minutes, three vehicles were pulled over and their drivers taken into the bus. A little while later, tow trucks started arriving. Incredible to think that there are so many impaired drivers on the road. The vehicle seizures went on steadily through the evening. Made me want to stand on the balcony and yell ‘HA! GOTCHA, JERK!’ every time a driver had to go and empty out their car for the tow truck driver.
It’s incredible to think that anybody can be so reckless and so stupid…and that there were so many of them last night (and probably on any given night). Who does this? Who puts themselves and other people at such risk? I don’t know how long the Checkstop is carrying on – I’m giving up and going to bed. But good for the police, for taking so many unsafe drivers off the road.
These were drunk drivers?
Honestly, getting their cars towed away is the least that should happen to them.
