I think I must be among the few that look forward to doing taxes, but the last of my receipts and forms came in and I happily filed.
The year is just moving right along, isn’t it? It’s not new year’s anymore, Valentine’s has come and gone, taxes are filed….the speed of these last couple of months has been a bit startling. Even the rabbits are starting to show brown ears – the sure sign that the season is slowly changing.
That rabbit does look a bit startled, as though the lack of snow caught it unawares. But then again, rabbits look startled most of the time, in my experience.
Stressful life!
Is it paying your taxes, the civic responsibility of it, that you like, or filling out the tax forms themselves? Because I can totally understand the former. But it’s the latter that always drains away any enthusiasm or civic pride I might have had. And my taxes are pretty simple, being a lowly editor and all.
I don’t mind doing taxes, either, and I’ve done all kinds of fairly complex ones, with very few missteps over the years. I can’t understand people who hand over all the receipts to an expensive accountant who just fills in the forms! that’s the easy part — the hard part is keeping track through the year and even more, planning so that you don’t fall into tax pits.
I think it’s a mix of relishing the feeling of being a taxpayer and also that I just really like filling out forms and doing paperwork.
