Tuesday morning.

The cold snap is easing today, and with it came a warning from the city to expect a number of water main problems. Snow expected tonight, though, which seems to follow for early March. You get the snow, or you get the cold. How I delight in the pictures many of you are posting on your blogs and online: the ones that show crocuses and daffodils starting to grow, and the first signs of spring. Calgary will get there eventually.

Time change this weekend, too. Can you believe it? Just when we start to have a bit of light in the early morning. It’ll be nice to have more daylight as I’m leaving work, but the morning dark makes it bittersweet.

    Crocuses and daffodils? I remember those…I think…

But I had completely forgot about Daylight Savings Time. Sure, the daylight’s nice, but I feel like a dragon hoarding its treasure with that soon-to-be-lost hour of sleep. *grumble*

Several of the villages here have issued warnings to their residents: leave one faucet in your house running a stream the size of a pencil, 24/7. Otherwise the city water mains — which run under plowed streets and are more subject to frost than lines that run under unplowed areas — may freeze.

I have never heard of such a thing.
