Who am I? I’m Heather. Big into reading. Big into writing.
I’m a writer. My work has been published in Kaleidotrope, The First Line, and the anthologies Evolve: Vampire Stories of the New Undead (Edge Science Fiction and Fantasy) and Awkward Two (forthcoming). I’m finishing my first collection of short stories, Lost Things.
I’m a graduate student. I’m working on my master’s degree in cultural studies.
I read a lot. I try to read the New York Times every day, and I have an ever-growing stack of books I’m trying to read or waiting to read. Too many of them are textbooks. I’m of the opinion that ebooks are perfectly fine, thank you, and I don’t think you need to pick a team to show your print or e-ink loyalities.
I am a sometimes geek. I know a lot about Word mergefield code; I can do things with mail merges that would make your head spin.
I take public transit.
I write fiction. I’ve published a bit, and I’m working on expanding my credits. I’ve had the very good fortune to be a writer-in-residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts eight times now, and I highly recommend their programs.
I knit a lot. Partly because it’s fun, and secretly because I think that it will be a useful skill with the coming zombie apocalypse is upon us.
I like my job. It keeps my life interesting.
And I buy lottery tickets.
